Travelling for #CWZ2026

Our participants are all serious about climate action – travel included. Explore sustainable ways to reach and move through Zurich.

At Climate Week Zurich, climate action doesn’t stop at the programme – it extends to how our participants move. Whether you’re travelling to Zurich or navigating the city throughout the week, there are many ways to keep your footprint low while keeping your experience smooth.

We ask CWZ participants arriving from outside Zurich to carefully evaluate the need to fly. Every climate‑minded travel choice helps accelerate better, more widely accepted low‑carbon alternatives.

Travel terran

CWZ partnered with SimpleTrain, a Swiss start-up whose online platform provides a wide range of ideas, tips and services for rail travel. SimpleTrain offered #CWZ2026 participants a voucher for all travel booked with their app.

We also teamed up with Terran, a Swiss NGO whose vision is a world in which land-based – or terran – travel is the first choice. To measure both footprint and impact created, Terran surveyed how CWZ participants are travelling. Insights to follow in our Highlights Report 2026!

Tips on organising travel

Online tools like Google Maps and Rome2Rio can help you discover all travel options available.

The Swiss public transport system (SBB) is great! Travel to/from Zurich by train, and within the city by tram or bus – lots is also doable on foot.

More of a bus person? Explore cross-Europe bus travel by providers such as Twiliner, Eurobus and FlixBus.

There are agencies specialized in terran travel: SimpleTrain in Switzerland; Gleisnost or Kopfbahnhof in Germany; and Hourrail, Mollow or No Plane To Go in France.

Interrail offers a travel card valid for 4+ days, which is often the most competitive option even when only used for 2-3 days.

Many companies support low‑carbon travel, from reimbursing land journeys to counting train time as working time. Check what your employer provides and make the most of it!

Did you know:
the climate impact of flying

Air travel has become more efficient over the years, yet it still has one of the highest emissions per hour compared to other transport options.

It emits roughly the same CO₂‑equivalent per passenger‑kilometre as driving alone in a fuel‑powered car – but over far longer distances. Its overall warming impact is further increased by non‑CO₂ effects such as condensation trails.
